Experiences prospecting for gold at Spanish Bar and later at Murderer's Bar, with information about various methods of mining; impressions of various towns he visited; information about construction of miners' cabins, social activities, religious practices, drinking, gambling, etc.; description of Whig Convention at Coloma; arrival in San Francisco in June as delegate to convention; appointment as inspector of customs, San Francisco; description of fire, June 22; activities of Vigilance Committee; crime in San Francisco and elsewhere; arrival and departure of ships; local and state politics; amusements and activities in San Francisco. With this, as v. 2: John Henry Nash's publisher's dummy for proposed publication.
